South Jones did more than becoming the only Jones County team to win its contest in last week. The Week 3 win, a lopsided 42-12 decision over West Harrison on the road, improved the Braves to 2-1 on the season and became the only team in Jones County to possess a winning record thus far.
“We wanted to go down there and be sure to get a win,” said South Jones head coach Cory Reynolds. “The week before we didn’t play well enough to win. We lead 14-0 early, but then we didn’t finish.”
They made sure to finish in Week 3.
Senior running back Ricky Boleware played a big part in the Braves victory according to Reynolds.
“We wanted to get out early and start fast,” added Reynolds. “And Ricky was a big part of that. He trusted his lineman, got behind them and ran hard.”
Boleware rushed for 187 yards on 15 carries and three touchdowns, including two TD runs over 50-plus yards. His Week 3 performance earns him this week’s Sports601 Jones County Player of the Week award.
“I think I played pretty well, but I could not have done it without my teammates on the front line,” said Boleware. “They got after it and did their job. It made my job easier.”
Boleware and Company travel across the county this week to face rival Northeast Jones in “The Jungle.” Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.
