National Signing Day 2018 didn’t quite have the buzz normal for the first Wednesday in February. The inaugural early signing period approved by the NCAA, which took place on December 20, stole its thunder.
Still, several local athletes took pen to paper on Wednesday and signed LOIs with Mississippi JUCO’s and universities, both in and out of state.
Heidelberg High School featured the most signee’s in the Smith, Jasper and Jones County area. Dontavious Porter signed with JCJC, Tyreese Cooley with East Mississippi Community College, Khehlan Kennedy with Co-Lin Community College and Caleb Brunson with Coahoma Community College.
LeJavieon Gammage of Bay Springs was the only other Jasper County player to sign on Wednesday. The senior DE signed with Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
Only three signed LOIs in Jones County – all three came from Laurel High School. Juan Nelson inked with Pearl River Community College, KaSon Chinn with Co-Lin Community College and Kobie Ulmer with Hinds Community College.
