Head Coach: JD Holloman

Previous Year Record: 4-16 (overall); 1-8 (Region 5-5A)

First Game: vs. Lamar on Feb. 24 at noon.

Key Players: Adam Carmichael, Keno Shelby, Zarian Richardson, Jquan Johnikin.

What Coach Holloman had to say:

“We’ve got some good kids returning this year. They’re working hard. We got pitchers that were able to get some quality experience last year, and they’re working hard in the bullpen right now.

“We had some ups and downs in our jamboree games, but I saw a lot of good things that we can build on. And the negative things I saw were all things we can work to get better on.

“We’ve had some new kids to move in this year, and they will help our program. We have Adam Carmichael who came to us from Laurel Christian and Zarian Richardson from West Jones. We also have Cameron Jones who came back in from Northeast Jones.

Pitching:

“We have Keno Shelby who pitched some during the Meridian Jamboree. He did well for us. He pitched two good innings. All of our relievers such as Zarian Richardson came in and impressed us. We found out that we can get some innings out of him.

“We have Jquan Johnikin, who will be a utility player for us, he caught for us behind the plate last year. Adam Carmichael will come in a catch for us as well to free Johnikin up and put him where he needs to be, and that’s on the mound. He had a rough outing this past weekend, but everyone has those from time to time.

“And then we have some younger kids who can do well when we put them on the mound. We moved up an eighth grader (Arjalen Marshall) as a catcher, and he has a strong arm on him.

“Our other pitchers are Jarius Russell and Kaymin Ulmer.”

Offensively:

“We going to have to score runs and make plays offensively. Unfortunately, we’re not blessed with a lot of team speed as we’ve had in years past. We’ll find ways of getting things going though.

“I moved Mason Moss over as our hitting coach, and he’s worked real hard with our guys. We hit a couple of home runs last Saturday, and that is good to see. We hit all of one last year and this year we’ve already had two in our jamboree games. So that is a plus.

“We have four kids that are playing basketball right now, so when they get done with their season, we’ll be able to add to our guys here.”
