Basketball season came to an end Friday in Jackson for the North Forrest Lady Eagles and Hattiesburg Tigers, as both were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the state playoffs.

Coahoma County 55, North Forrest 22

Nyriah Artis and Nakia Cheatham combined for 33 points in leading Coahoma County into the Class 2A Semifinals, ending North Forrest’s Cinderella run in the process.

The Lady Eagles trailed by just five points, 10-5, at the end of the first quarter. They were outscored 45-17 the rest of the way, as the Lady Panthers improved to 28-4.

Mahogandy McNulty led North Forrest with 7 points, while Sydney Blackwell added 6 for the Lady Eagles, who finish their season at 15-12.

Canton 49, Hattiesburg 29 

Hattiesburg held a 10-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but Canton seized control in the second, outscoring the Tigers 17-6. Canton’s lead grew even more in the second half, as they outscored Hattiesburg 24-13 after halftime in pulling away for the win.

Alabama signee Javian Fleming led Canton with 13 points.

William Robinson had 8 points to lead Hattiesburg, who finishes their season at 20-11.
