Game 1 of the series goes to St. Stanislaus.

Northeast Jones baseball fell behind early to the Rock-A-Chaws Friday night in “The Jungle” and never recovered. Giving up solo runs in the first, third, fourth and sixth, NEJ (19-6) fell 4-1 to St. Stanislaus (10-10) in Game 1 of its Class 4A first-round playoff series.

Daniel Wolf went the distance for the Rock-A-Chaws, allowing just one NEJ run on six hits. The “soft-tossing lefty” recorded seven strikeouts in 31 batters faced.

Northeast Jones’ six hits came from six different Tiger batters. Reid Reynolds, Patrick Little, Tyler Harper, Keagan Ward, Shelby Nowell, and Mason Smith all came away with hits in the loss.

The same can be said of St. Stanislaus. The eight hits recorded by the Rock-A-Chaws came from the bats of eight different batters. Corban O’Bannon was the only St. Stanislaus batter in the lineup to not get a hit.

Designated hitter Dawson Strong led St. Stanislaus at the plate, though, with a solo hits and two RBI. Strong’s two-out double in the top of the first scored the Rock-A-Chaws first run of the game. His second RBI, a sacrifice bunt in the sixth, scored his team’s final run of the night.

Three NEJ pitchers saw action on the mound. Starting pitcher Reid Reynolds took the loss. The PRCC signee tossed five complete innings and gave up three earned runs on seven Rock-A-Chaw hits.

Cole Mozingo and Shelby Nowell tossed an inning apiece. Nowell struck out two of the three batters he faced.

The solo NEJ run narrowed St. Stanislaus once three-run lead to two, 3-1, in the fifth. The Tigers’ run came on a Wolf throwing error in a pick-off attempt at first base. Mozingo, who reached on an error earlier in the inning, scored on the play. St. Stanislaus committed four errors to Northeast Jones’ one in the contest.

Game 2 of the playoff series is set for 2 p.m. Saturday afternoon in Bay Saint Louis.
