PRC jumped out in front early Thursday night. Caleb Tynes’ single to CF, scoring Eli Lee who doubled to lead off the second, put the Blue Devils up 1-0. Tynes’ later scored on a fly ball to CF off the bat of Robert Shoemake.

In the bottom of the second and top of the third, West Jones and PRC traded sac fly’s as PRC held a 3-1 lead.

Then came the six-run fourth.

West Jones scored four runs in the inning before PRC could get a single out, thanks to two PRC fielding errors and a pair of RBI singles by Dustin Dickerson and Kris Riley. Mustangs added two more runs in the fourth on a two-run double by Adam Bassett, scoring Dickerson and Riley.

Bassett led West Jones at the plate with two hits and two RBI. Dickerson and Riley also finished with a pair of hits each and an RBI. Walker Thompson, Colson Harris, Garrick McLaurin and Evan Bynum also had a hit in the contest.

With a 7-3 lead, West Jones gave up three runs to PRC in the following stanza but allowed no more to collect a 7-6 win in Game 1.

Dustin Dickerson went the distance for West Jones on the mound. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and four walks and struck out seven PRC batters of the 31 he faced.

Rigell Robinson took the loss for PRC, tossing 5.2 innings and gave up seven runs, two earned, on 10 hits and struck out four West Jones batters in 33 he faced.
