Dannis Jackson and Nathan Pickering share several common titles. Both are heading into their senior seasons with their respective Pine Belt team. Both are regarded as cant-miss prospects for the 2019 class and ranked as 4-star recruits by 247 Sports. And as of late last week, both are Mississippi State commits.
Last Thursday during a visit to Starkville, Pickering, a Seminary standout at defensive end, committed to the Bulldogs. The very next day, Jackson, who has starred at wide receiver for Sumrall since he was a freshman, did the same.
Neither woke up the day of their commitment with intentions of making such a decision. If those previous commonalities weren’t enough though, both continue to be blown away by first-year Bulldog coach Joe Moorhead.
“He [Moorhead] does have an enthusiastic side about him,” Pickering said. “It’s crazy, sometimes he can really get so hyped. He can change the whole environment.
“Once I got my parents on the campus and we talked to Coach Moorhead, my mom and dad were happy. I just felt like that was my time. We had all my family there at the same time, so I felt like that would be the right environment for me to go ahead and make the move.”
As for Jackson, the Sumrall star says Pickering’s commitment didn’t initially influence his.
“Honestly, I didn’t know he [Pickering] was going to commit the day before me,” Jackson said. “But once me and my mom visited and stuff, we got a feel for it. For me it felt like Coach Moorhead has the program going in the right direction. Before I actually visited, I didn’t really have the vibe for it and all that. But when I actually got on campus, it seemed like this was a place I could play.”
According to 24/7 Sports, Jackson and Pickering are the 6th and 7th 4-star commit towards Mississippi State’s 2019 class. If things hold up, it has a chance to be ranked as one of the nation’s top recruiting classes.
“It seems amazing,” Pickering said. “We got a lot of great talent that’s committed to Mississippi State out of the 2019 class itself. I feel the class that’s coming in can really make a difference.”
Still, both say their recruitment is far from over. In fact, Pickering is trying to get Jackson to come with him on a visit to Oregon in the not too distant future. Common offers between the two include: Oregon, Southern Miss, Ole Miss, Florida, LSU, Auburn and several others.
