A big defensive effort by the West Jones Mustangs against Natchez Friday night on the road resulted in a 35-0 win for the Mustangs. The 35-0 victory was the third shutout of the 2018 campaign for Scott Pierson’s crew and the second in a row. West Jones blanked Forest Hill, 21-0, last week at home.

Natchez managed only 86 total yards on the evening, threw three interceptions, and had two bad snaps on punting attempts in the first half – both of which set up WJ scoring drives.

Alan Follis completed all four of his passing attempts on the evening for 42 yards and two scores, including a 2-yard pass to Alabama commit Byron Young in the first quarter. Walker Thompson added the first of his five successful PATs on the night to give the Mustangs an early 7-0 lead.

West Jones exploded for 28 points in the second quarter, including two scoring dashes by Londarrius McRunnels, who slipped into the end zone from 1-yard away at the 11:55 mark of the second quarter and again from 3 yards away with 9:53 showing in the same quarter. Seventeen seconds after McRunnels second TD, Follis connected with Jalen Graham on a 25-yard TD toss.

Antonie Kirk added the final points of the night when he scored on a wide receiver reverse with less than four minutes remaining until intermission. The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the second half.

Micheal Neal ran for 51 yards on 10 totes to pace West Jones on the ground.

The Mustangs improve to 5-1 overall and 2-0 in 3-5A and will tangle with North Pike next week in another region contest.
