Here are your Jones County Week 11 predictions as picked by James Pugh.
North Pike at Laurel
Region 3-5A is Laurel’s for the taking.
North Pike comes to Laurel Friday night with nothing to lose – except a ball game “Between the Bricks.” Laurel pretty much has the region on wraps, especially if things go the way they are supposed to go on paper, but they can’t afford a slip-up or two for multiple reasons.
The Jaguars can score, but not enough to do damage against a team like Laurel.
Prediction: Laurel 42, North Pike 13.
Northeast Jones at Newton County
This game will wrap up the 2018 season for Northeast Jones.
Northeast hasn’t won a game all season, and they’re down to their final game of the regular season. The good news for Northeast Jones is this: Newton County is a team that can easily be beaten by a struggling team like the Tigers.
I say they go out with a W, as they did against Newton County in 2017.
Prediction: Northeast Jones 33, Newton County 21.
Brookhaven at South Jones
Let’s not make this complicated.
If South Jones beats Brookhaven Friday night, the Braves will make a brief playoff appearance. Brief, only because as a No. 4 seed in Region 3-5A, they will be matched against the best team in Class 5A – Hattiesburg.
The Braves forced the game into overtime last year against Brookhaven, who later went on to win Region 3-5A. Brookhaven isn’t as talented this year as they were last year, so South Jones has a shot against the Panthers this year.
I keep going back and forth in my mind regarding the outcome of this game. One minute I’m feeling favorable towards South Jones, and the next I’m battling this horrible gut feeling regarding the Braves’ chances. Maybe it was the Mexican meal I ate, or at least that’s who I’d prefer to give the blame to if I’m wrong.
Prediction: Brookhaven 28, South Jones 24.
West Jones at Wingfield
I’ll break a personal record for the quickest prediction summary here.
Wingfield is 0-10, West Jones is 7-2. Need I continue?
Prediction: West Jones 35, Wingfield 0.
