Week 12 of high school football season is here and so too are the MHSAA (2A-4A) and MAIS playoffs. Here are Zac Chamblee’s predictions for five postseason match-ups this week in the Hattiesburg area and Covington County.

Sumrall (8-3) at South Pike (9-2), First Round 4A Playoffs

Having lost three of their last four, Sumrall didn’t finish the regular season as they had hoped. Now they face a South Pike team that’s won six straight and clicking on all cylinders—offensively and defensively—right now.

South Pike 31, Sumrall 20

Southeast Lauderdale (3-8) at Seminary (8-3), First Round 3A Playoffs

Can Southeast Lauderdale slow down Seminary’s roll? Anything’s possible, but I wouldn’t bet on that happening. The newly crowned champions of Region 8-3A have won seven straight games and are on a mission to win it all this year.

Seminary 35, Southeast Lauderdale 13

North Forrest (5-6) at Bay Springs (8-3), First Round 2A Playoffs

An uphill climb awaits North Forrest here. The Eagles have struggled on defense pretty much all year; The Bulldogs have been on a major roll offensively as of late, outscoring opponents 200-46 in the last month. Both teams can put up some points, but Bay Springs’ defense will be the difference.

Bay Springs 45, North Forrest 23

Enterprise (1-10) at Collins (9-1), First Round 2A Playoffs

Not a whole lot to say here. As their records suggest, Enterprise has struggled mightily this year, and Collins is a legitimate state championship contender.

Collins 49, Enterprise 6

PCS (1-10) at Jackson Academy (8-2), First Round AAAA Division I Playoffs

Jackson Academy won the regular season matchup in convincing fashion, and they should do the same in the rematch. PCS’ youngsters are getting better by each passing week, but they’re not yet ready or equipped to compete with Jackson’s Big 3.

Jackson Academy 42, PCS 17

NOTE: Hattiesburg, Oak Grove and Petal conclude the regular season this week and will open the playoffs next Friday night.
