Two Northeast Jones standouts signed baseball scholarships on Tuesday.
Centerfielder Joey Withers signed with Erskine College, a Division II school in Due West, South Carolina, while catcher/infielder Tyler Harper signed with Mississippi Delta Community College.
“It’s always nice to see two hard-working players like Withers and Harper find a place to continue to play,” said NEJ head baseball coach Jeremy Parker. “They’re both true team players, and we’re a major part in NEJ having success in the diamond the last three years.”
Withers hit .274 during his senior season as a Tiger, scoring 27 runs and was 18 of 19 in stolen base attempts.
Harper, who led the Tigers at the plate in nearly every stat, held a .408 batting average on 40 hits and two home runs. Harper crossed the plate 19 times and batted in a team-high 35 runs.
Withers and Harper helped the Tigers advance to the second round of the Class 4A playoffs as the team finished the 2019 season with a 17-12 overall record.
